Effective Date: June 4, 2026
FirstChair only persists numeric practice metrics: minutes practiced, intonation cents, rhythm and tone scores, exercise IDs, and session timestamps. These are stored locally using Apple's SwiftData, inside the app's sandbox. They never leave your device unless you choose to share a report through the system share sheet.
When you tap "Start Practice," FirstChair begins listening through the microphone solely to compute the on-device DSP scores described above. The audio buffer is processed and discarded — it is not written to disk, not retained between buffers, and not sent over the network. Pressing "Stop" or backgrounding the app ends microphone access.
FirstChair Plus is a subscription processed by Apple through the App Store. We receive only the entitlement information Apple provides through StoreKit; we do not see your name, email, or payment details. Subscriptions can be managed and cancelled in your iOS Settings under Apple ID → Subscriptions.
FirstChair is designed for middle-school and high-school band students. Because no account is required and no data leaves the device, FirstChair does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Parents and guardians can review or delete all locally stored practice data by deleting the app from the device.
FirstChair has no third-party SDKs for analytics, advertising, or attribution. The only external service involved is Apple's App Store, exclusively for purchase processing and entitlement verification.
If this policy materially changes, we will update the effective date at the top and revise the document at this URL. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
